Michael Mikelic | Chief Financial Officer, Carter Funds

Michael Mikelic serves as Chief Financial Officer of Carter Funds and its affiliates, bringing over 30 years of experience in commercial real estate, private equity, investment banking, and public accounting expertise to the company. During his career, Mr. Mikelic has overseen billions in both investment banking and commercial real estate transactions.

Prior to joining Carter Funds, Mr. Mikelic was the accounting and financial leader of Penn-Florida Companies, a prominent multibillion dollar owner, full-service developer, luxury golf-club operator, and vertically integrated commercial real estate firm located in South Florida. During his time at the firm, he successfully helped navigate billions in sale transactions, JV deals, investor relations, and new loan opportunities. This included industrial, retail, multifamily, hospitality, golf & resort, and the development and planning for multiple development sites across South Florida.

From 2009 through 2022, Mr. Mikelic served as CFO for a rapidly growing New York City-based real estate private equity firm with over $500 million in transactional value involving value-add deals in multifamily, retail, office, industrial, development, and distressed debt. Under the leadership of Mr. Mikelic, many of these deals achieved IRR returns of over 30% and over 2X equity multiples for outside investors.

Mr. Mikelic started his career in New York City working for various investment banks including NatIXIS Real Estate Capital Markets, Julius Baer, and HypoVereinsbank (currently part of the UniCredit Group).  During his time in New York City, Mr. Mikelic handled billions in transactional value and represented US and Canadian institutional money invested in European real estate markets.

Mr. Mikelic earned his MS in Accounting from Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management in New York. Mr. Mikelic earned his CPA in New York, along with his CCIM Designation (Certified Commercial Investment Manager), often called the “MBA of commercial real estate.” Mr. Mikelic was a formerly licensed FINRA Broker Series 7, 63, and 55 for over 20 years.
